A Journey of Play, Learning, and Light: Designing a Nursery Rooted in Nature and Wonder
The creation of this nursery was more than just a design process—it was a journey shaped by a clear and inspiring brief from the client: to craft a safe, nurturing space where children could grow, play, and learn in harmony with nature. The vision was to create an environment that supports early childhood development while encouraging imagination, exploration, and a deep connection to the world around them.
At the core of the design is a central circular gathering space, envisioned as a playful, secure heart of the nursery. This open courtyard serves as a communal zone where all children, regardless of age or group, can come together to play, interact, and share in moments of discovery. Its circular form encourages movement, inclusivity, and a strong sense of belonging—creating a space where the boundaries between play and learning naturally blur.
Surrounding this central hub are the classrooms, each strategically arranged to maintain a sense of openness while providing clear spatial organization.
What truly defines these learning spaces is their connection to the sky. Each classroom is lit by a carefully placed skylight, bringing in generous amounts of natural daylight.The light gently washes over the interiors, creating calm, uplifting atmospheres where children can feel inspired and engaged.
These skylights do more than illuminate—they foster a quiet sense of wonder. The shifting daylight, changing shadows, and glimpses of sky above subtly invite curiosity and reflection, making each day in the nursery a new experience.
Blending indoor and outdoor experiences, the design prioritizes safety, comfort, and sensory engagement. Nature, light, and learning come together seamlessly to create a holistic environment—one that doesn’t just house education, but nurtures imagination, growth, and joy from the very first steps of life.
