A National Archive for Uzbekistan: Preserving Heritage, Embracing the Future

This new national project is envisioned as the central home for Uzbekistan’s most treasured and sensitive historical documents—a landmark that embodies both the cultural legacy of the nation and its future aspirations. More than just an archive, the building serves as a symbol of identity, transparency, and continuity.

The architectural form is unfolded and open, establishing strong visual and physical connections with the surrounding urban fabric on all sides. The building does not turn its back to the city; instead, it invites engagement from every direction, reinforcing its role as a civic and cultural anchor.

One of the key features of the design is the panoramic connectivity with the landscape. From the interior, visitors enjoy uninterrupted views toward the public garden at the rear, overlooking lush green spaces and reflective water lakes. These natural elements provide a serene backdrop to the

archive experience and offer a moment of calm and reflection amidst the intellectual and historical weight of the collection. The building is anchored by a grand main entrance, designed with ceremonial presence and clear visibility from the main street. This monumental entry point establishes a strong public identity while guiding visitors into the curated world within.

Operational efficiency and clarity of circulation were central to the design. The layout carefully separates the public visitor route—leading to exhibitions, reading rooms, and galleries—from the more secure, functional pathways used daily by employees and researchers. This dual-system approach ensures privacy, security, and efficiency without compromising the visitor experience.

This project is not just a building—it is a national treasure chest, an architectural expression of trust, memory, and legacy. It stands as a modern custodian of Uzbekistan’s past, thoughtfully embedded in the landscape of its future.
